The Story
DataChef was founded in 2017 on the Gold Coast, Queensland. From day one, we were in the Microsoft stack — implementing Dynamics 365 Business Central, building Power Platform solutions, migrating data from legacy systems, and managing Microsoft 365 environments.
We worked across government, legal, healthcare, and corporate Australia. NSW Crown Solicitors Office. Shine Lawyers. Flight Centre. Mater Health. Maurice Blackburn. Queensland Government. Over fifty implementations.
The legal vertical became our focus because the problem was the clearest. Law firms were paying for proprietary systems that locked their data behind closed platforms — while already paying for Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365. We built MatterX to give them a native alternative. Legal Finance was the first product. It's now live on Microsoft AppSource.
Good Minutes came from the other end of the market. Solo consultants and freelancers who needed time tracking, client management, and invoicing but had no system at all. We took what we'd learned in enterprise and built a free desktop download.
Today, DataChef is an ISV and technology partner. We build products, deliver implementations, publish to AppSource, and contribute open-source frameworks to the Microsoft ecosystem. We're two people. We ship more than teams of twenty. And we're just getting started.
